Honoring the Past, Investing in the Future: Orland Cemetery District Welcomes New Backhoe After 37 Years
With smiles, handshakes, and a shared sense of pride, the Orland Cemetery District marked a meaningful milestone on May 8, 2025, as they welcomed a brand-new JCB 3CX Compact Backhoe to their equipment family. This bright, modern machine will continue an important legacy—replacing a faithful John Deere backhoe that has served the District for an incredible 37 years.
Trustees Rick Beale (Chair), Kevin Donnelley (Vice-Chair), and Dottie Tefelski, District Manager Staci Buttermore, Grounds Foreman Chris Ollenberger, Groundskeeper’s Theron Martin and Bryan Enos, Golden State Risk Management Authority Advisor Steve Woods, and Troy Preciado with JCB gathered for the arrival of the new backhoe, recognizing it as more than just a piece of equipment – it’s an investment in the future of the community and a symbol of the District’s ongoing commitment to preserving the sacred grounds they maintain. The acquisition reflects the District’s continued commitment to improving operations and ensuring respectful, high-quality care of its cemetery grounds.
District Manager Staci Buttermore shared her gratitude for those who made this upgrade possible, especially Troy Preciado, Solutions Specialist, with JCB. “Troy was a wonderful partner throughout this process,” Buttermore said. “He was knowledgeable, responsive, and truly instrumental in helping us find the right fit for our District’s needs. We are thrilled with the outcome.”
Trustee Chair Rick Beale also expressed appreciation for the team effort behind the scenes. “The Trustees are absolutely thrilled to have such resolute District staff, Buttermore and Ollenberger who worked hard to make this happen. Their commitment to this community shows in everything they do, and we are incredibly proud of their efforts,” Beale said.
The Orland Cemetery District proudly cares for four historic cemeteries: the Catholic Cemetery, IOOF Cemetery, Masonic Cemetery, and the Graves Cemetery. Together, these hallowed grounds hold the stories of 9,606 souls who have been laid to rest, representing generations of local families and community history.
“Every shovel of dirt turned here carries deep meaning,” said Trustee Chair Rick Beale. “This new backhoe ensures that we can continue doing that work with dignity, precision, and care. It is about honoring those who came before us—and serving those who come to remember them.”
As the sun rose over the peaceful cemetery grounds, the shiny yellow backhoe stood ready—ushering in a new chapter for the Orland Cemetery District and the families they so proudly serve.
